Global Online Academy’s Catalyst Showcase

Sophia Chao '23, Grant Fisher ’23, Katie Frymire ’23, and Nikitha Thoduguli ’23 had their first-semester Capstone Projects recognized as exemplary and published in Global Online Academy’s Catalyst Exhibition Showcase.

The projects were nominated by GOA teachers, and of the 880 student projects submitted, less than 40 were selected and published. Each project opened with an engaging beautiful question, and the response was carefully researched, detailed, and compelling.

Texas State Junior Classical League

Forty-three Greenhill Middle School students competed at the Texas State Junior Classical League (TSJCL) State Convention on April 14-15, 2023, and brought home the first-place trophy for the second year in a row. This was the first time in years that the Novice Certamen Team made it to State.

At the annual TSJCL Area C Convention in February, 52 Middle School students competed and won more than 90 ribbons. The Novice Certamen Team of Dylan Shah ’28, Tomal Khan ’28, Arman Makhani ’28, Ansh Gandhi ’28, and Connor Kim ’28 brought home the first-place trophy.

Lower School Projects

Lower School students enjoyed their culminating projects like the Second Grade City Project, where students created cities out of recycled materials; the Fourth Grade Rocket Day, where students designed rockets to see which flew the farthest; and the Primer Play, where students performed for their families.

Preschool Learning Exhibitions

Preschool students enjoyed showing their families their project-based learning exhibitions this year. Kindergarten exhibits focused on bioluminescence, film, seasons, and space and prekindergarten exhibits focused on earth science and meteorology.

National Merit Recognition

Greenhill School had six students selected as Semifinalists and 16 students identified as Commended in the 68th Annual National Merit Scholarship Program. Click here to read the full story about these students.

MATHCOUNTS

The newly established Greenhill MATHCOUNTS team (Tim Csallner ’28, Bryan Kuang ’28, Evan Tsai ’28, and Lucas Zhu ’28) competed at the Preston Trail Chapter competition where Evan finished in 19th place, Bryan in 32nd, Tim in 57th, and Lucas in 74th. The team, led by coach Jason Zuffranieri, performed so well on their individual tests, that the collective team qualified for the Texas State Competition.

Robotics

For the first time in four years, Greenhill Robotics competed in the NXT Regional Championship where The Motorheads, consisting of Kevin Han ’23, Pranav Joshi ’24, Aditya Pulipaka ’24, Dibyadeep Saha ’24, Vedant Subramanian ’26, and Tarik Syed ’26, placed 19th. Due to how well they did, the team qualified for the Texas State Championship, making this the first time Greenhill advanced past regionals.

The team received the second place Design award at regionals and the silver Motivate Award and a bronze Inspire Award at the North Texas Semi-Regional Qualifier Tournament.

Commencement

Greenhill School graduated the Class of 2023 at the 73rd Annual Commencement ceremony held at the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, at 4:00 pm. Head of Upper School Trevor Worcester introduced the graduation class and gave welcoming remarks. Madison Rojas delivered a message of gratitude to the Greenhill faculty and staff. Laya Venkat gave a senior address about how her Greenhill experience shaped who she has become, and Aaron Johnson delivered the second senior address, focusing on what he has learned at Greenhill and looking forward to new challenges and endless possibilities.
