Greenhill Batting Cages

Supported by Karla, Larry, and Oliver Steinberg '19

Karla and Larry Steinberg have generously supported Greenhill School from the time their son Oliver started in first grade in 2007. As Oliver grew up at Greenhill, he consistently played – and loved – baseball. In Upper School, he joined the varsity team as a freshman.

There was a need for batting cages, and the Steinberg family decided they wanted to help bring that goal to fruition. They wanted to do something for Greenhill’s baseball program that would last for generations to come. “We’ve always enjoyed going to games, seeing Oliver grow and improve his skills, getting to know other parents and Oliver’s friends along the way. We saw this need and we wanted to be a part of something that would not only honor our son, but benefit future baseball players.”

The cages opened in the spring of 2019 for the team to start using. The baseball team also improved their record, qualifying for SPC and advancing in the first round. On one fateful evening, the batting cages even provided shelter for both teams, families, and friends during a lighting storm on an important counter game!

Oliver now attends the College of Charleston, and the Steinbergs will always be grateful for his time at Greenhill. According to Larry, “Our son had a good twelve years there. He has benefitted tremendously from his Greenhill education and has long-lasting, quality friendships with his classmates. We are grateful for that.”
